When Families Consider Counseling
Families commonly seek counseling around persistent conflict between members, adjustment after separation, remarriage or relocation, grief or illness, and concerns about a young person's behavior. Family therapy focuses on interaction patterns in the household rather than on one member.
Common turning points
A conflict that keeps recurring, a change that has unsettled everyone, or a situation where one member's difficulty is affecting the whole household.
- Ongoing parent-child conflict
- Separation, remarriage or a new household structure
- Grief, illness or caregiving strain
- School or behavioral concerns
Who attends
Attendance is flexible and often changes across sessions depending on the focus. A therapist may also meet individually with a member as part of family work.
